Nakia
Nakia is an influential queer artist in the Austin music scene and beyond, known for his commanding, soulful voice and more than 20 years of captivating audiences worldwide. A season-one fan favorite and semi-finalist on The Voice, he has shared stages with legends including Willie Nelson, B.B. King, Sharon Jones, and Alejandro Escovedo. Deeply respected for his community leadership, Nakia helped create emergency relief for Austin musicians and venues during the pandemic, earning recognition as a “Local Legend” from Matthew McConaughey.
As a performer and creator, Nakia appears at major festivals including Austin City Limits and SXSW, as well as pride celebrations nationwide. His recent work includes Signal (2025), an 80s-inspired synth-rock album showcasing his talents as writer, performer, and producer, and he fronts Nakia & The Never Not Now in a residency at C-Boy’s Heart & Soul.
